15 Bible Memory Verses Every Kid Should Know

1. Genesis 1:1 - “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Teach children that God made everything

2. Psalm 119:105 - “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Help children know that God's Word teaches us how to live.

3. Proverbs 3:5 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Children need to learn that "follow your heart" isn't God's way. His way

4. Matthew 5:16 - “Let your light shine before others…”

We are on a mission with Jesus, no matter how old you are.

5. Matthew 22:39 - “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Love is the foundation of the law and the prophets, and this is the 2nd greatest command.

6. Luke 6:31 - “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Every child needs to know the Golden Rule. This sets the foundation for how we treat those around us

7. John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…”

This is the heart of the gospel in one verse.

8. Romans 3:23 - “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

We all need to know that we need Jesus because we have messed up.

9. Romans 6:23 - “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life…”

We need to know what consequences our actions produce.

10. Acts 2:38 - Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

But there is freedom in the blood of Jesus! And children need to know that in Him, they can have forgiveness from those sins.

11. Ephesians 4:32 - “Be kind and compassionate to one another…”

Another very practical way to teach children how to behave towards one another.

12. Philippians 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

While this is often taken out of context, children need to know where their strength comes from: the Lord.

13. Philippians 4:6 - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ”

We live in a very anxious world. Children need to know how to deal with their anxiety, and that is to take it to God in prayer.

14. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - “Pray continually.”

A simple verse with profound effects for one's life. Teaching a child to pray from the time they're small will teach them to grow in a relationship with Jesus.

15. 1 John 4:19 - “We love because he first loved us.”

Our motivation to love others does not come from within ourselves. It comes from who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
